A Network Marketing Organization Is Built Between Your Ears

by Dale Calvert

In the old days they would refer to network marketing as a “personal development program with a compensation plan attached to it.” Today, we seem to be trying to take average people with a mindset of mediocrity and make them as they are, into network marketing professionals.

You can't send a duck to eagle school! They can get their eagle certificate, their eagle badge and their eagle cap. You can parade them across the stage and let them shake the CEO's hand, but all you really have is a dressed-up duck!

I am not trying to be harsh or cruel, just realistic.

As a leader in network marketing you have two choices: develop a following, or develop leaders. There is no question that it is much easier to develop a following: you just simply tell ducks that they are eagles and that everything that has gone wrong in their business is not their fault.

The network marketing space is full of wolves in eagle clothing that are masters at this. They have built their entire career on simply telling people what they want to hear.

Real leaders must love people enough to tell them what they NEED to hear, not what they WANT to hear. I am so thankful that early in my career, I consistently heard the truth.

“Dale, you are lousy, BUT you don't have to stay lousy.”

“You business will get better when you do.”

“If you don't get consistent at doing the right activities, how can you ever expect to improve?”

“Stop worrying about how much you are making and ask yourself, who are you becoming?”

“There is no problem in your business that sponsoring five new people won't solve.”

I could go on with the messages I heard on cassette tapes from people who were telling me, “You must and you can get better. They were sharing what I like to call “the wisdom of the ages” straight from books like Psycho Cybernetics, The Magic of Thinking Big, Think and Grow Rich and the Book of Proverbs in the Bible.

Today, it seems that wisdom of the ages has been replaced with so-called leaders (wolves in eagles clothing) telling people what they want to hear.

Wolves in eagles clothing say, “It is not your fault, it is your upline.” The wisdom of the ages says, “You can have anything in life you want if you help enough other people get what they want.” Don't you think your upline understands that?

Wolves in eagles clothing say, “You need to quit promoting to people you know and start ATTRACTING people on the Internet.” The wisdom of the ages says, “Start in your local market and use the power of a third-party upline because anyone from out of town with a briefcase is considered an expert.”

Wolves in eagles clothing say “Meetings do not work.” The wisdom of the ages says, “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another.” (Hebrews 10:25)

Wolves in eagles clothing say, “If you join this affiliate program, buy these leads, invest in this personal coaching or training program you will be sponsoring 67 people a month.” The wisdom of the ages says, “The Law of Averages works for everyone, it is a numbers game. We are all looking for the right person at the right time in their life.”

I could go on and on, but you get the idea. The good news and the bad news is, you are where you are in your business because of what has gone into your mind, and the only way to change where you are is to change what goes into your mind.

In my upcoming webinar for Networking University, “Programming Your Mind for Network Marketing Success,” I will share with you the exact steps I took daily that ultimately allowed me in only fifteen minutes a day to develop a Million-Dollar MLM Mindset and ultimately have years with over three million dollars in income as a top distributor in this profession. I hope you will join us!
