Self-HELP Me: Change your Habits, Change your Life

Mark Fournier

  • Do you ever have difficulty consistently reaching and sustaining your goals?
  • Do you allow procrastination, exception or excuses to interfere with any of your goals or commitment?
  • Would you like to know exactly which virtues, skills and systems must be mastered in order to be the best in your field or just be happier?
  • Do you ever feel alone or unsupported in your efforts, goals or dreams?

Do your still want to significantly improve your life or organization in spite of these challenges?

Have you ever experienced an inspiring book, CD, seminar or movie with a message so profound or stirring that you vowed to make a sweeping change in your life? For me personally it was in 1974 when I realized the enormous power I had over my own life and destiny while reading Viktor Frankls Mans Search for Meaning where this concentration camp survivor states Everything can be taken from a man but ...the last of the human freedoms - to choose ones attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose ones own way. And the immortal book As a Man Thinketh by James Allan where he explains, A man is literally what he thinks about, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts. He thinks in secret, and it comes to pass: Environment is but his looking-glass.

Knowledge is not Power... Only the consistent application of knowledge creates power.

GOING... Going... gone...
Journey forward to today and ask yourself what of that dream has become a reality? How many of these brilliant insights are now an automatic part of your basic nature? Are you consistently applying them and getting the results you expected, or have they gradually faded away? Have you ever allowed an empowering principle or passionate goal to slip through your fingers, unexpressed... never fully realized? What then is the missing link to LASTING change?

Amateurs

Wendy Weiss

A professional is someone who shows up, no matter what. A professional is someone who gets the job done, no matter what. A professional is someone who does what she needs to do, when she needs to do it, no matter what. An amateur is someone who lets circumstances, other people and emotions get in the way...

To Leave or Not Leave a Voice Mail - That Is the Question

MJ Durkin

Voice mail and caller ID have changed the landscape of telephone prospecting forever. It is not uncommon for a networker to make two dozen calls over a two hour time period and not reach even one person live. It is the world we live in now and the networkers who will take the time to learn the skills of leaving voice mail messages that get return calls will be the ones who succeed in the next several years.

Traditional sales training espoused the caveat that if you received someones voice mail that you should not leave a message - you should wait until the prospect answered the phone live! It is vital for you to realize that this is advice that was given in the 1970s and 80s when telephones were still attached to the wall by coaxial cable! This is outdated advice that does not work in todays Pentium-like environment. If you have the ability to sit at a phone all day long, every day and call your prospects at different time intervals you will eventually be able to reach them live. Most networkers do not have the luxury (or the tragedy) of having that kind of time to call that consistently. So the 21st century answer to the question of whether or not to leave a voice mail is this: always leave a voice mail every time you call. Yes, every time you call!

Todays prospect listens to their...

Newsflash: Networking Has Gotten a Bum Rap

Dean Lindsay

The term networking has gotten a bum rap. I consistently ask professionals who come to workshops and speeches based on my book, Cracking the Networking CODE, to share with me what they think of when they hear the word networking. Far too often, they say it conjures up images of manipulative, self-serving, insincere and predatory individuals who are on the prowl for someone they can pounce on, try to sell something to, or solicit an unearned favor from.

I wish I could say this style of networking was not out there, but it is, and it is a waste of time for ineffective networkers and the unfortunate people they corner. True networking is not about arm-twisting. It is not about trying to get someone to do something that does not make sense for them to do. It is not about scary old backslapping sales shenanigans.

There is a big difference between meeting someone and building a priceless business relationship with them. Networking is not about chance meetings. Even if...

Four Simple Tips for Networking Outside the Box

Todd Falcone

Box. What box? I do not live in a box! What are you talking about?

I am talking about that little square we live in every day. No...not our home, not our room, nor our office. It is where we reside in our minds and how we go about living our lives. The box represents our actions and our thoughts that bring about different results in the things that we do.

You have probably heard the phrase, Find out what everybody else is doing and do the exact opposite if you want to be successful, right? That is certainly the beginning of living outside the box in one dimension.

To obtain better results, do something different. Do something unusual or unexpected. Stick out. BE yourself. Uniqueness is a wonderful quality. Establish points of difference in all that you do.

Living outside the box is much more than simply USP (Unique Selling Propositions). It is how we think, how we act, and how we live that makes the greater difference in not only our lives, but the lives we touch.

Even entrepreneurs reside inside the box most of the time. Yes...even the successful one is do. It is easy. It is what we know. Then, why in the world am I writing about getting out of the box? Is it just to give you more work, more to think about, more to do? The answer is both yes and no. Certainly, not for the simple sake of making you do more, but for the complexity of making you do more. Confused yet? I thought so.

You see, when your mind is stimulated, it creates. When you are challenged, you rise to the task. Yes, you could easily live inside the box your entire life and do quite well. Live a comfortable life, as they say. But, is that really living? It might sound like a great way to go. But there is no growth in simplicity.

What does outside the box mean? It actually...

Are You Sending Traffic to the Wrong Type of Website?

Dale Calvert

In 1994 I set up my first website, MLMHelp.com. It is what is commonly called today a catalog site. I did not have a clue what I was doing, I violated virtually every rule of online marketing, but that site produced over $100,000 in sales the first year and it has never done less.

The one thing I did do correctly was add a monthly, No Fluff MLM Marketing, e-zine that visitors could subscribe to. Sometime in 1996 I ran across the Inside Secrets to Marketing on the Internet Course by the late Corey Rudl.

I thought it was awesome, so I included information about the course in my monthly e zine. 30 days later I received a call from Coreys office telling me I had set a record for the highest affiliate sales in one month in the history of the company and they were sending me a check for $17,000.00.

I am slow, and at that point I still did not get it. It took over two years before I ever sent out another promotional email. I built that list to over 90,000 subscribers and had a partner erase the entire data base. Experts tell us that you should earn about $1.00 per month per e-zine subscriber-Ouch!

I could go on and on with the success and failure I have experienced online over the past 15 years, however let me share a concept with you that I know can make a powerful impact on your business right now.

The number one mistake I see network marketers making right now, is they are sending traffic to the wrong kind of website. I am still shocked at the number of distributors who pay good money to create website traffic and then send those visitors to a corporate self-replicated site.

Understand there are basically a handful of website development companies that provide...

You'll Get More Bookings When You Make Your Parties Fun!

Karen Phelps

The Home Party Plan business is still booming! As new companies form each year consultants struggle to get their share of the bookings. Are you one of the consultants who struggle for bookings or do bookings fall into your lap? Getting bookings from your parties is easier than you think, however, it may require a change in your thinking.

When you began your Direct Selling business you probably began like most consultants by begging your friends and family to help you get started. Feeling insecure about yourself, you went and did the parties and may have gotten a few bookings but not enough to replace all of the parties you held.

You might have found yourself at a dead end and had to begin again by calling more prospects for new bookings only to repeat the cycle. Most consultants, even top sellers find themselves in an occasional dry spell, however...

Power Prospecting

Randy Gage

Well, it happened again today. I got a message from a friend I havent heard from in a couple years who wants to catch up. So I call him back and what does he really want? To ask me if I want to join his new MLM program. (Sigh.)

You have to wonder...will these people ever learn?

I often ask these people if they do not remember that I am already in a network marketing company -- the same one they were in and never did anything with. Inevitably they ask if I am still in it.

Um, yeah, I reply. made about $150,000 last month, so I am kind of satisfied with it.

Then they usually sheepishly ask if I would give them the names and phone numbers of my friends or family who could buy their products. (Double sigh.)

It is much like the calls I get at my office. They tell Lornette that they have an urgent consulting or training project, and must speak to me right away. I call them back, only to hear something like, Hi, Randy, my name is so and so. We met a few years ago at the MLMIA convention. (I have never been to an MLMIA Convention.) I am working with XYZ Company, and I just wanted to touch base with you and blah, blah, blah...

And it is always the same. The consulting project or business venture they want...

Today's Networkers Face New Challenges

Mark Yarnell

Todays networkers face an entirely new set of challenges. These challenges require a serious shift in strategies.

For a decade now, the entire technology sector has promoted the infantile trinity of easy, simple and fast calculated to attach emotions and quasi-gratification to products and services whose functional benefits are completely irrelevant.

People must learn to turn off all technology for a couple of hours each day and focus on relationship building through face-to-face and verbal interaction or they are destined to fail in todays network marketing environment.

Networkers must realize that their best target age group is individuals born before 1964. Why? Because boomers are the most desperate for opportunity and the least distracted by technology.

People must start...

Social Media Network Marketing

Doug Firebaugh

A lot has been written about social media networking over the past two years, but believe it or not, few home businesses are using this powerful business and marketing tool yet. Many people, because it is on the internet, shy away from it as if it were the plague.

I am not a geek, people tell me. Well, we have ungeeked the geek for many small and home business owners, and made social media make sense to them.

But there are exceptions.

I was talking with a business owner the other day and she made the comment, I do not go to those kinds of sites. I do not have time to do that as my business is struggling and I need to go and find more customers.

That says it all.

That shows a total lack of understanding of what social media/web 2.0 is really about, and what it can do for the average small business and home business -- even on a local basis. If people really understood social media marketing, they would be running to the social media zone and staying there.

There is a lot of talk that it is not proven as it is too new and the jury is still out on it being a viable marketing process.

I totally disagree. The social media network marketer is...

QuantumThink-It—Reading the Energies of the Time

Dianne Collins

The world lives by trends called cycles - and cycles are all about timing and energy shifts. When times of transition are upon us, it is important to read not just the outer, obvious economic and political trends, it is imperative that we read the subtler energy trends. Why is this so important? Energy shapes action.

Millions of people from countries throughout the world are infused with enthusiasm for the new US President. Individual reasons are many yet there is something larger in the air and most of us know it. This is not only the beginning of a new kind of leadership, it is an official beginning of a new moment for humanity, a great awakening for all of us-if we pay attention, if we read the energies, and if we step into it. Optimism bears fruit from enlightened action.

Examine your own response to what is going on now. Are you worried and concerned? hopeful and optimistic? A little of all of the above? Conditioned by old world view thinking one tends to get swept up into the obviousness of the circumstances and outer chaos which can take your mind (if you let it) on a wild, frenzied ride.

However, when we QuantumThink-It we focus on the bigger picture, attentive to the context in which the changes are occurring. Energy trends are a form of intelligence with specific and useful information. With awakened thinking we can see beyond pundits and politicians cries of economic doom and gloom to grasp the subtleties of what this cycle of energy is guiding us to do.

Why is it so important to read the energies? Because when we look from the larger perspective we can move forward with more expansive knowledge and this means we act with confidence, conviction, and wisdom.

It does not take special talent or genius to see that our current systems have reached their limit of effectiveness. Anyone can see that restructuring is the order of the day, no longer an option but a...

Start Setting No-Goals Today ... See Amazing Results Tomorrow!

Richard Fenton and Andrea Waltz

It's 11:35 a .m. on Monday and Christine Wilkerson is smiling. Having completed her second meeting of the day, she finds herself two-for-two; two appointments, two sales! As she strides toward her car, having hit her goal for the day, she dials her cell phone to reserve a 1:00 p.m. appointment at the spa for an unexpected but well-deserved pedicure.

And in the blink of an eye, a great day begins to take a quick slide toward an average one, all because Christine started her process by setting the wrong goals.

The Problem with Traditional Goal Setting

Everyone knows the importance of setting goals. The problem is in the type of goals people set.

Many direct sales and network marketing professionals operate with what are commonly called, "Yes-Goals"... number-specific goals for the amount of times prospects say, "yes." This approach - while it's the one we've all been taught to use and follow - is significantly flawed for one main reason. Once we achieve the objective, we tend to divert our attention to other tasks or reward ourselves for our success. And how do we reward ourselves; by slowing down, taking a day off, shopping or catching up on paperwork.

There is a better approach that can dramatically increase the performance of anyone who employs it; that approach is...

The Recipe for Success

Maureen G. Mulvaney

The American Dream represents hope for people around the world. Many great-grandparents and grandparents blazed the trail to the shores of America to give the gift of possibilities to their children. This ability to make the impossible possible has an exact success recipe.

Follow the Recipe

Have you ever prepared a dish that did not turn out well? Perhaps an ingredient was left out or improperly substituted for another ingredient. Perhaps you followed the steps of the recipe in the incorrect order. Like any recipe, the Recipe for Success has a specific order and number of ingredients that must be used. The recipe can only be enhanced when the basics are included.

People generally want immediate results. They want get-rich-quick short cuts. Television shows document the everyday lives of...

Giving Your Way to Referral Success

Andrea Nierenberg

What are some ways to find new customers and distributors?

I believe the old maxim, It is better to give than receive, holds the key to our referral success. For centuries this has been sound advice for living. From the Bibles command to love your neighbor as yourself to sales trainer extraordinaire Zig Ziglers key principle that you can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want, being a giving person brings success.

What are some practical things you can do to genuinely be more of a giver?

Give Away You Possessions

Sometimes it is appropriate to show appreciation with a gift. Sending a gift sets you apart and finding something that uniquely suites the individual helps build solid relationships. It says, I know you and care enough to think about what you might enjoy.

Sometimes it is appropriate to send a gift even when the sale does not close. If you appreciate the effort someone has made on your behalf, feel free to send a little something. You will keep them on your radar and prospect list. I often send flowers.

Sometimes they just mean...

Working Leads: Productivity versus Activity

Mark Helsel

I spoke with her on a cold January morning and she left me with an experience I will never forget. She was my first call of the morning. I was just getting started and still feeling a little sleepy. After a few sips of my morning brew I dialed her number. She answered and I said, Good morning, Mary. This is Mark Helsel and I am calling because you have expressed and interest in learning how to make money at home with your own business.

She quickly interrupted me. Hold on just a minute. Before you go in to your big pitch, does this business of yours require any time, money or effort? Caught completely off guard, I intuitively responded, Well, yes, of course. She quickly responded, Then I am not interested, and she hung up on me. That woke me up, in more ways than one.

Have you ever run in to a person like Mary? The truth is, they are everywhere, especially if you are working with leads. I paid hard earned dollars for Marys contact information and within 15 seconds...

Building Your Psychological Armor

Paula Pritchard

Rejection is the toughest obstacle we face in network marketing and yet how we handle it is the most critical part of our success. There is no question in my mind that some of our most talented people are lost each year to rejection. It is something we struggle with each day, not only for ourselves but for our people in order to keep them in the game...

Change Your Habits, Change Your Life

Mark Fournier

Have you ever experienced an inspiring book, CD, seminar or movie with a message so profound or stirring that you vowed to make a sweeping or significant change in your life?

Try mentally returning to that period now... bringing to mind the feelings of hope, excitement and possibilities. Can you hear the music climaxing in Rocky as Stallone sprints to the top of those endless stairs, leaping into the air with his fist... or perhaps it happened while listening to Coveys 7 Habits of Highly Effective People or during a Chicken Soup for the Soul story.

For me, it happened in 1974 when I realized the enormous power I had over my own life and destiny while reading Viktor Frankls Mans Search for Meaning, where a concentration camp survivor states Everything can be taken from a man but the last of the human freedoms: to choose ones attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose ones own way.

Also as I read the immortal book As a Man Thinketh... by James Allan where he explains, A man is literally what he thinks about, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts. [...] He thinks in secret, and it comes to pass: Environment is but his looking glass. If you can recall a time like this when you experienced a new purpose or level of awareness...

What the Economic Stimulus Law Means to You!

Sandy Botkin

Where there is an income tax, the just man will pay more and the unjust less on the same amount of income. -- Plato

As in Platos day, most people know that the government stimulus law (which is known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) is a giant bailout for some folks: namely large businesses. When I say giant, I was not kidding. The Act consists of thousands of pages. In fact, the entire text of the bill, and that of the previous economic stimulus act, is so huge that they might barely fit in a Winnebago! Congress must have purchased them, plus the vehicle to deliver such huge legislations, at either Wal-Mart of Costco.

Unknown too many people, however, is that there are a number of provisions that apply to both individuals and small businesses. I will try to summarize some of these provisions so you can see how this new law can apply to you.

Small Business Provisions:
  1. Automobile depreciation increased: In 2009, the maximum depreciation that you can take this year for a passenger automobile was going to be $3,160. This number was increased by $8,000 to $11,360 for the first year alone.
  2. 50% Bonus Depreciation: In addition to any depreciation taken on equipment, you can get an additional 50% bonus depreciation. This applies to any tangible equipment used in business and not to buildings. This is especially good for SUVs where business taxpayers can elect to write off only $25,000 of the business use of the SUV in the first year alone. Example: Sam buys a Cadillac Escalade for $54,000 and uses it about 92% for business. Thus, the business use is $50,000. Sam may elect to deduct the first $25,000 of the business use PLUS he would get 50% bonus depreciation of the remaining $25,000, which would be an additional $12,500 of depreciation. Moreover, he would get regular depreciation of the remaining $12,500 which would be taken over the forthcoming six years. The result is that you would be effectively deducting about 80% of the business use of a qualified SUV!
  3. $250,000 special expense rule: You know the old golden rule, he who has the gold, makes the rules. Since the government has the gold...or at least prints enough money to buy all of Fort Knox multiple times, they have limited depreciation of equipment. Usually equipment gets depreciated over 5-7 years depending on the equipment. However, now a small business can elect to deduct up to $250,000 worth of equipment in the year of purchase. However, Congress is an Indian giver. In order to take this deduction, the equipment must be new to you and purchased this year. Secondly, the equipment must be used over 50% for business. Finally, the total purchase of all equipment must be less than $800,000 or some of this $250,000 will be phased out.
  4. Transit pass exclusion increased to $230: In 2009, you can provide transit passes to your employees of up to...

Let It Shine!

MJ Durkin

The secret to becoming a natural networker is to let your authentic self shine through to everyone you pass by during your day.

Attracting the right people to you is actually much easier than you might think. First spend some time thinking about the kind of person you would like to meet or work with. Picture that person and get a feel for the specific qualities you are looking for.

Next, imagine yourself going through your day and see this kind of person being very open and receptive to meeting you. See your day filled with a limitless supply of prospects coming toward you in all kinds of ways.

As you go about your day be...

Beliefs->Actions->Results

Wendy Weiss

What separates the people who are amazingly successful from those who struggle? Why is one person able to start a business or begin a new job in sales and succeed, while others with similar qualifications and abilities fail?

More and more I've come to realize that what makes the difference between those who succeed and those who do not comes down to thoughts and beliefs.

You see, whatever you believe affects your actions. If you believe that a certain action is negative, you will not want to take that action. If, on the other hand, you believe an action to be positive, why then it will be far easier to move forward with that action.

Taking action (or not taking action), gives you...

How Are You Leading Your Team?

Dale Calvert

What is your specific game plan to start your new distributors on the right track to success?

Unfortunately today in network marketing, far too many distributors are giving what I call the go sickem training program. They are brought into their program by a close friend or family member who has no experience or background in the networking profession.

Lets face it, the industry is full of the blind leading the blind. Is it any wonder the drop out rates are so high? Even worse, the internet is full of self proclaimed gurus trying to distract or steal members of your team, hiding behind the title of consultant or trainer.

In todays environment, more than ever, it is your job to lead your team. If you do not provide them a track to run on, somebody else will.

There are four dominant leadership styles...

The Four Pillars of Standing Out Online

Dave Saunders

Using the Internet to gain exposure, position yourself, attract and maintain new business has never been easier. Thanks to the continued growth of the Internet, especially the explosive growth of new social media web sites, you can build relationships with people around the globe. You can share your passions and add value to the global community of the Internet by sharing what you know and what you are learning. Social media is not some new system merely for driving traffic to a landing page. It represents a collection of tools and resources which have been created to bring people together online. Collectively, this new media is known as Web 2.0. It does not replace, but rather adds to the existing capabilities of the Internet.

The number and variety of online social media sites already available is vast and growing almost daily. Joining and connecting with the people on only a handful of these sites can connect you to a bounty of people. No matter which of the many social media sites you use, there is one ingredient that is so important; to leave it out is like pulling out of the driveway without tires.

That essential ingredient of your online presence is you.

Also known as your personal brand, your presence online leaves an impression for others to...

How to Effectively Start Calling a Lead

Michael Oliver

Here is an interesting question from TD who asks, How do I establish an open discussion with new potential partners over the telephone?

My Answer: In order to answer you correctly I would need to know whether you are referring to calling leads, calling friends or associates, cold calling, referrals, etc.

For this week, I will address how to start the approach of calling leads.

First though, if you want to establish an open discussion or dialogue, it is important to start correctly. The Connecting Stage, which is the first stage of five of the Natural Selling Dialogue Framework, is designed to do this.

It sets you up to be successful for the important second stage, The Discovering Stage which will determine what you present in your solution.

Unlike other sales approaches that concentrate on

The MLM Rule of Life

Doug Firebaugh

Here is a sad rule of life that all network marketers must accept:

"Most people resist change in their life."

You will find this out quickly in MLM.

Why?

Mainly, when change has entered a person's life in the past, it usually came in the form of a loss, not a gain.

It carried with it pain, not pleasure, so most people equate change to something negative instead of something positive.

Change then becomes "chains" that people carry around with them.

People who carry chains are:
   - chained to their past,
   - chained to how things are,
   - chained to fears,
   - chained to doubts,
   - chained to insecurities,
   - chained to other people's opinions,
   - chained to other people's patterns of life,
   - chained to other people's beliefs.

Chains are much too heavy to carry around with you, especially in network marketing.

Most people have a tendency...

How to Achieve over $100,000 per Month in 21st Century Networking

Mark Yarnell

Earning $100K a month in today's world requires the same laser focus as always, but there's just one catch: celebrity authors and technology mega-corporations are financially committed to keeping everyone distracted. Multi-tasking is just another way of saying "fragmented effort."

Multiple streams of income require multiple disciplinary wisdom and competitive expertise in a wide range of specialties. Unfortunately, American young people rank 24th out of 29 developed countries when it comes to competitive thinking skills according to The Organization for Economic Cooperation a nd Development test of problem solving skills demanded in today's workforce.

I could go on and on about the many distractions we face today, but I'd rather that you read Maggie Jackson's new bestseller Distractions. She's brilliant.

I must tell you that in my upcoming Webinar, I intend to hold nothing back. If the truth offends...

So Why's Everybody Broke?

Randy Gage

Back when I was doing lots of generic seminars for network marketers, I noticed a very disconcerting pattern. When many of the top income earners would buy my resources afterward, their credit card would decline. Yet these were people that bragged constantly about making $40,000, $60,000 or $80,000 a month.

And it seemed like several times a year I would get distressed calls from top distributors who had been terminated by their company, or their company had gone out of business. Invariably they would tell me that they were a month or two away from getting cars repossessed or losing their homes.

Something didn't add up...

I came to learn that many people in the business are broke. Even people that earn a lot of money. Which shouldn't be so shocking. The truth is, earning large amounts of money is fairly easy in this business. Learning how to create wealth is a completely different skill set. For many people (me included) network marketing is the first time we've ever made a lot of money, and we don't know how to handle this new wealth. This is important...

Where Does All My Money Go?

Eric Tippetts

"Where does my money go every month?"

This is a question most Americans are asking themselves these days. For the first time in quite awhile, the economic climate is forcing many of us to really start living within our means. The days of easy home equity loans and refinancing one's home to pay the bills are over.

Experts argue whether or not we are in an actual recession, but when you speak with people you hear all about gas prices going toward $5 per gallon (and maybe higher), food prices going "through the roof," healthcare and other costs skyrocketing, and the lack of security in the job market.

If you're like most people, money always seems to be tight. Between skyrocketing costs and never-ending bills, by the end of the month your bank account is empty and you have no idea where it all went. The good news is, we can change that!

What if we could find a proven system that is simple, quick and mobile, and offers guaranteed results?

We hear over and over again about people going to seminars to hear the big financial experts and motivational speakers... leaving very excited and motivated, with a lot of CD's and books (that quickly become lost or forgotten) but without a SYSTEM that allows them to do all the things that the speakers are telling them to do.

The #1 recommendation all Financial Experts have is: track your spending. If you don't know where your money is being spent, how can you ever manage or control it?

The problem with most expense tracking systems is that by the time a user sit down to become a data entry clerk at the end of the month... he or she has already overspent! Same with credit cards: by the time you receive the statement, you have already spent more than you wanted to and it is too late to do anything about it.

The key to getting a handle on your expenses is having...

How I got 2,000 Quality Prospects in Two Weeks

Tom "Big Al" Schreiter

So where are you going to get new leads for your networking business?

You prospected your family. Now you are banned from weddings and funerals.

You prospected your friends. They would not return your telephone calls.

You prospected your co-workers. When they see you coming, they walk on the other side of the street.

You are stuck. You have nuked your warm market.

And then you decide to find new prospects over the Internet. That sounds like an easy way to go. Just purchase a few thousand hot leads, send them an e-mail, and presto!

Nothing happens.

Why? There could be many reasons.

  1. These hot leads thought your e-mail was spam.
  2. These hot leads didn't know, like or trust you.
  3. You e-mail message was boring.
  4. These hot leads weren't so hot. They weren't good prospects.
  5. The web page you sent them to was boring.

Well, there are a lot of factors...

Networking Is an Art

Andrea Nierenberg

Although we know that the goal of networking is to discover new business opportunities, it's more than a "paint by the numbers" process. It takes time, patience, and creativity to cultivate people into our lives. The key is to make networking become a natural part of everyday life.

When I first started consulting businesspeople, networking was starting to get a bad reputation. People saw trade shows, business seminars, and community events as "targets" to pass out and collect as many business cards as possible. Ultimately, people networked when they needed something from someone. I agree that type of attitude can be detrimental to our sales success.

To make positive networking become a part of your everyday life, start with a strategy and...

But I Could Never Sell!

Bob Burg

As I took my seat in the crowded airplane, the woman in the next seat over smiled. "Headed home?" she asked.

I nodded. "Jupiter, Florida."

"My, you're a long way from home!" she exclaimed. We were on the tarmac in Regina, Saskatchewan. "What brought you to Regina?"

I told her I had been conducting a seminar for a direct selling organization. She wrinkled her nose. "Oh," she pronounced, "I could never sell."

Five Virtues for the Virtual World

Dianne Collins & Alan Collins

Think of new technologies as tools for being in relationship. It is vital to create and maintain an intimate and authentic connection to each person who "opts in" to your community. Here are five virtues for the virtual world.

Be Distinctive

The best thing you can do for your audience is distinguish yourself and your gifts uniquely -- through the way you write or speak, the graphics you use and the technologies you select. Opt-in technology means you attract people who sincerely resonate with you...

Your Money and Your Mind

Dianne Collins & Alan Collins

Anyone even faintly familiar with the law of attraction realizes that what you resonate you attract. If there were ever a time to gain command over your "money resonance," now is that time. In this economic atmosphere it is more important than ever to elevate your mastery with the habits of your very own mind.

Let me clarify what I mean by "mind." Mind is everything you hold in your awareness including your thoughts, your emotional states (that are evoked by the meaning you ascribe to your thoughts), your spiritual centeredness (or not), as well as your energetic essence or feeling tone. What fills your mind...

What Is Holding You Back?

Paula Pritchard

Success is taking inventory. You must be willing to identify your strengths and your weaknesses. It takes courage to work on your weaknesses, but the rewards are worth the journey. Once I decided to take inventory, I utilized my strengths and diligently worked on my weaknesses.

One of my biggest weaknesses was fear. An interesting thing---fear! You can't see it, but it's so real it can paralyze people and keep them from accomplishing all their goals in life.

My mentor once said that fear is "False Evidence Appearing Real." The more I thought about what he said, the more I realized that I was spending a great deal of time being afraid and worrying about things that were, most likely, never going to happen. In the process of worrying about the negatives that may happen tomorrow, I was missing out on all the positives that were going on today.

The Psychology of Booking Parties

Karen Phelps

Booking parties becomes so easy once you understand both the "how" and the "why". I've never seen anyone who, once they learned the "Psychology of Booking" couldn't keep their calendar full.

Is there a "Psychology of Booking"? You bet! Some consultants understand it right away but some never learn it! I've seen consultants quit after a few years because they were tired of their constant battle to get bookings. They obviously never got it.

I've observed people begin a direct selling business by asking others to have parties to help them get started and never explain to the host "what's in it for them". I've listened to consultants saying they feel as if they are begging people when asking someone to host a party.

Truth is, I wouldn't have lasted for over twenty two years if I had to spend my time begging. What is the secret that...

I'm Not Interested

Wendy Weiss

Whenever I conduct a workshop or Webinar, invariably someone asks the question:
"What should I say when the prospect says, 'I'm not interested?'"

My response invariably is: "It's probably too late."

Certainly you can try to recover from that "I'm not interested" response. You can ask, "Why do you say that?" (Say this gently, as though you are confused and really, really want the answer.) You can repeat back: "Not interested?" (Again, say this gently, as though you are confused.) This sometimes...

Five Strategies to Generate Unlimited Leads

Eric Lofholm

Running out of leads is one of the biggest challenges I hear from network market-ers. There is no such thing as a lead problem. If you don't have enough leads, it is an idea problem. While many people feel they do not have enough leads, most have never set a lead inventory goal. To run an effective network marketing campaign, you need a minimum of 200 leads in inventory at all times. If you don't currently have 200 leads you can contact, set a goal to get 200 leads in the next thirty days. Goals act like magnets. You will begin to attract those 200 leads. Here is one reason why you need a minimum of 200 leads: if you have few leads, then there is a good possibility that you will procrastinate on making your calls. Let's say you have just thirty-seven leads to contact: you will tend to put off calling them, because those thirty-seven leads represent hope. If you contact all thirty-seven and no one is interested, then you have lost your hope. But if you have 200 leads, this will put you ...

How to Get Your Master's Degree in Lead Generation

Dale Calvert

In today's marketing world most of my clients and customers suffer from the same thing: information overload. There is so much good marketing information available today that we can easily become distracted and take our eye off our ultimate goal.

Some of the best advise I have heard over the past couple of years has been "Say no to a lot of good ideas so you have time for the GREAT ones!"

If you want to build a large residual income with network marketing you cannot afford to let yourself get distracted by all the money-making methods and systems that consistently fill your email inbox and sometimes postal mail box.

A question you should always ask yourself:

"Does participating in this, or learning this, support my ultimate goal?"

Get clear about your reasons why you are doing what you are doing. It is easier to create a $1,000 monthly residual income ...

How to Attract World-Class Leaders

Steve Siebold

If you're going to become a Network Marketing millionaire, you must attract champions into your organization. Champions are found, not made. You can recognize champions instantly because they radiate success. These are the people you need to build a strong, profitable Networking empire in the new economy.

Three Ways to Stop Creating Resistance

Michael Oliver

While I was observing a recent opportunity meeting, I noted three things about the presentation that could be called "resistance creators."

Could you be doing something similar without realizing it?

First, the presenter included justifying statements such as "Network marketing isn't what you think it is" and "It's not a pyramid scheme." He proceeded to explain what he thought it was and why it wasn't a pyramid scheme.

He then continued to overcome some of the "perceived objections" that people supposedly have about network marketing, such as its legality, etc.

The presentation also made comparing statements that included how the company "has the best products... is the number one company in its field... has the best compensation plan... etc."

At the end of this, one of the guests turned to me and said, "I didn't think there was anything illegal about network marketing? And what's a pyramid scheme?"

"Also" He added, "I didn't know there were other companies doing the same thing. I'd like to check them out."

I later discovered...

How Hearing "No" Can Take Your Business to the Next Level!

Richard Fenton and Andrea Waltz

What if, starting today, the word "no" didn\'t stop you? What if every time you heard the word no, you became stronger, more powerful, and more resilient? What if the greatest success strategy in the world was not to go for yes, but to go for no?

For people who are discouraged by the failure and rejection that can come with building their business, here is a concept that can inspire them in a totally new way. It is true: the word no doesn\'t have to hinder you. In fact, it can empower you to achieve a whole new level of greatness you never dreamed possible.

In order to tap into the "power of no" the first thing...

Using the Power of Intention to Create a Better World -- and a Happier You

Howard Martin, HeartMath LLC

The ability to create things we want through directing our thoughts and intentions has been talked about by people in the field of personal development since the early 1900s.

For example, most wealth building processes have a component that focuses on creating a vision, setting goals, and then reinforcing them with the power of belief.

There are also many spiritual teachers, old and new, who talk about how interacting, consciously and unconsciously, with a universal field of energy determines the events in our lives, making us in a sense co-creators of our reality.

In his theory of relativity, Albert Einstein says in essence that everything is energy -- everything, including our thoughts and feelings. This understanding makes us wonder...

Do You Come from Gratitude, Love and Trust - or from Doubt and Fear?

Dr. Joe Rubino

As human beings, we often react emotionally to what others say or do. If our reactions are preceded by the emotions of fear, anger, or sadness, we forfeit our ability to act with personal power and effectiveness in lieu of a knee-jerk response.

This reaction is all too often sourced in fear and low self-esteem. We may focus on what's wrong with us and our lives, and fear being controlled, hurt, or taken advantage of.

We may overlook the many things we have in our lives for which we could be grateful, doubt our ability to...

Bridging the Gap between Offline, Online and Mobile Marketing

Dan Hollings

WARNING! THE FOLLOWING JOKE MAY SHOCK YOU

Mr. Online and Mr. Offline are sitting in a bar discussing their various marketing tactics when in walks the young, voluptuous Miss Mobile; after a few drinks they strike up a conversation.

"Hey, why not come over to MySpace and we can Google together," says Mr. Online. Immediately Mr. Offline pipes in, "Hey, forget that, I can get you on billboards or perhaps a magazine spread."

Totally unimpressed, Miss Mobile strolls to the door, turning to say, "Sorry guys, it sounds like neither of you are in to
text."

When it comes to your business, when was the last time you used SMS text? Yet, can you think of anything that is more pervasive and more intimate with the majority of your potential clients and customers than the communication medium of mobile phones?

Here are the facts: 94% of SMS text messages are viewed, 62% are remembered and 22% of value-add messages are forwarded to friends. Roughly half of mobile subscribers use SMS in the U.S. today.

If those facts are not mind-blowing enough to pique your marketing interest, did you know that...

JUST DO IT

Bud Chapplain

Isn't it about time that you got serious about your business? Here it is June and half of the year is over... are you still struggling with keeping your records up to date?

Here is a great tip:

If you think that you have to wait until next January you are mistaken.

JUST DO IT!

Now, in order to "just do it," you need to understand all the parameters involved and get clear on the following questions:

What should I do?
Why should I do it?
When should I do it?
How do I do it?

Why should I do it?

Here is a fact for you to ponder: every year...

Is Your Website a Billboard in the Desert?

Dale Calvert

It seems as though every week I have the same conversation with customers and coaching clients. It starts something like "Dale, I am not getting any results with my website, what can I do?"

There are two major factors for lack of good website results.

#1 Your site does not have a MWR (Most Wanted Response)

#2 You simply aren't getting enough numbers (traffic)

We will look at both of these challenges in this article. What is your Most Wanted Response? What is the purpose of your site?

Unfortunately many distributor websites are not designed to sell a particular product; they are nothing more than online catalogs with multiple product choices. This type of site is fine for distributors to place their personal product orders but extremely ineffective if you plan on marketing products online. One of the rules of any website should be "sell one thing and sell it well."

The more product choices you offer, the more likely that you will not sell anything. A confused mind does not take action.

I believe that every distributor...

What Is Your Prospect Feeling When You Are Talking?

Doug Firebaugh

Many network marketers today do a lot of talking when prospecting. They believe that they are keeping the attention of the prospect and think that the prospect is enthralled with their conversation.

They are wrong in many cases.

The prospect is not that interested in what you want to sell them or get them to do. They are more interested in how they are feeling about you as a person and distributor. Emotions determine much of the success in network marketing, and you need to make sure that they are feeling the right intentions and focus from you in your prospecting.

When a prospect is considering buying your product or maybe joining your company, that's a good thing. But the challenge is...

The Translucent Revolution

Arjuna Ardagh

Robert had it all: the beach house in Malibu, the latest SUV, designer clothes, the right connections. He also had a small drinking problem, and a few personal difficulties to resolve at home. He had made his money in California real estate, and when the market crashed in the late eighties, so did Robert. He went from a net worth of millions to bankruptcy. He lost the house, many of his friends, and his confidence. By 1992 he was thinking about killing himself. Late one evening, he was out taking a walk. He stopped and stood motionless, his mood blacker than the night. He had a thought, a simple thought. "I am finished," his mind announced. He still has trouble explaining what happened next. "I was overcome by a sense of relief," he reports. "A sudden feeling of inexpressible freedom. I even began to laugh out loud. My body was filled with happiness, as if I was suddenly getting a joke I'd been missing. For the first time I was feeling really good for no reason at all. I was totally here, in this moment. I could feel the trees around me, and hear the sounds without having to listen to thoughts telling me things needed to be...

What to Answer When Your Prospect Says...

Eric Lofholm

One of the biggest challenges I see network marketers face is how to respond when the prospect says "I need to think about it," "I don't have the time" or "I don't have the money." This is a challenge for every network marketer as well most everyone on their team. We know that at the end of a presentation the prospect is going to say one of four things. 1. I am ready to sign up. 2. I am not interested. 3. I have some questions. 4. I need to think about it, I don't have the time, or I don't have the money (or raise some other concern). Prediction is a form of power. When we know what prospects are going to say, we can...

Awakened Thinking – The Key to Mastering Results Part II

Dianne Collins

In last week's article, Part I of "Awakened Thinking," we addressed the fact that even though we are familiar with the basic principles of creation we have graciously been endowed with - thought creates reality, the law of attraction and the power of intent - we don't always experience getting the results we want using them.

Said another way: If your thinking creates your reality...

Awakened Thinking - The Key to Mastering Results Part I

Dianne Collins

Everyone tells you if you want to be successful in the network marketing business you have to change your mindset - think in the right way, have the right thoughts. Thought creates reality after all...we all know that, right?

If all you have to do is change your thoughts to change your reality - why aren't you achieving the level of success you want and know you deserve? Why do you sometimes...

Prospecting to Niche Markets -- Part I

Dr. Joe Rubino

Distributors often ask if it is more effective to lead with product or lead with the opportunity in their prospecting conversations. I believe that the most effective prospecting conversations lead with the relationship first.

It is only by creating a relationship first that your prospect will listen to what you have to offer with regard to your product or opportunity. The secret, then, is how do we best build rapport, create an opening to be heard and appreciated, and build the relationship?

As network marketers, we typically feel...

Use Online Social Networks to Make Yourself a Star

Paul Gillin

No one asked Reba Haas to become an expert on the Seattle area. No newspaper editor gave her a column and no TV station told her story. She doesn't have a radio show or even a book. Reba Haas created her own path to celebrity using a handful of carefully selected web sites and social networks. And after only five years in the business, she's become the number two Seattle realtor in the Re/Max network.

Is Your Business a "Magnificent Adventure"?

Dale Calvert

"Life is to be lived as a magnificent adventure, or not all." — Helen Keller. The sad truth is, most people live like sheep, following each other around: Go to work, get home, watch the electronic income reducer ... and continue the cycle day in and day out, living (as Emerson described it) "lives of quiet desperation" — and thinking this is normal simply because everyone else around them is doing the same thing! Ben Franklin said, "Most men die at age 25, but aren't buried until age 65!" What he was saying is that we quit dreaming. Sadly most people...

Insurmountable Opportunities

Mark Yarnell

The challenge in network marketing has never been a shortage of prospects. The challenge has always been the fact that everyone on planet earth wants to achieve big money and free time, and distributors are forced to make choices in an environment of insurmountable opportunities. Simply put, there are too many prospects and too little time. In fact, it’s so daunting that many people become overwhelmed and begin engaging in activities that are totally unproductive so that they can eventually defend their failure by pretending that they just didn’t have a good upline or no one taught them how to succeed. Others blame their companies, products or unsupportive families. Some decide to become full-time...

How to Evaluate Any Network Marketing Opportunity

Sandy Botkin

Walk into a hotel lobby, restaurant, or friend's living room almost any evening of the week, and you may find anywhere from 5 to 100 people listening attentively to enthusiastic speakers explain the benefits of becoming a distributor or representative for the products and services of network marketing company x, y or z. In a world where we have learned to tune out most marketing messages, friends selling to friends has become one of the most effective ways to get products distributed quickly.

Because of job insecurity or loss caused by corporate downsizing, many people are looking for part time opportunities that will...

Someday

Dr. Bill Toth

Looking at my calendar it's easy to see Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday....and now I'm confused...where is "Someday"? Everybody talks about it. Everybody has all kinds of great things that they're going to do or have accomplished on that day...Someday.

You've heard it before, "Someday I'll lose that last 10lbs. Someday I'll tell my boss what I really think. Someday I'll make enough so my spouse doesn't have to work. Someday I'll take the family on that vacation. Someday I'll be able to afford that car. Someday I'll start saving for my kid's college. Someday I'll start my own business. Someday I'll actually take the actions necessary to build my business. And Someday I'll actually do what I know.

As a physician...

What Vibes Are You Sending about Your Business?

Michael Losier

How do things happen in our lives? Essentially we create our world by putting out vibrations or vibes, and in the vibrational world, there are only two kinds of vibrations-negative and positive. Law of Attraction (vibrational energy), is always responding to the vibes you are sending by giving you more of the same...

Are We Selling?

Wendy Weiss

I looked up the word "sell" in the dictionary. Here is what it said:

"To persuade (another) to recognize the worth or desirability of something."

This definition assumes value. It assumes that you recognize the value of whatever it is that you are selling. Inherent in the definition is the concept of worth or desirability.

I also looked up "salesperson," "saleswoman," "salesman," "sales clerk," and my favorite, "sales talk." The definition for "sales talk" was, "a line of reasoning or argument intended to persuade someone to buy something."

Whenever I do a workshop or teleconference, I frequently ask participants...

Don't Wish this Business Was Easier, Wish You Were Better

Dale Calvert

How many times have you invited someone to an event and they tell you, "Yes, I will definitely try to make it." You KNOW when they tell you that, they have NO INTENTION OF COMING! But you tell them, "Great, I will save you a seat," and then go on your merry way telling yourself that you have a guest that will be coming to the event. When they don't show up, you are disappointed and of course you never see them again.

LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, THIS IS...

An Exercise in Patience

Todd Falcone

I've been thinking lately about some of the other elements that separate big producers in this business from those that become statistics or simply produce nothing.

Obviously it takes consistent daily actions to create production. You've all heard me say that the only thing that really matters is prospecting. If you are consistently talking to new people every day about your business, you will produce results.

However, it happens at different paces for different individuals. And...if it isn't happening as fast as you thought it would or would like it to...

Bombs Away

Mark Yarnell

When we first launched our Holy Grail of Network Marketing Collection, we made the very important decision to tell the truth no matter whom it might offend. Simply put, my job is to tell the truth no matter whom it offends so long as I am irrevocably convinced of its accuracy. That's the approach I take with respect to the numerous landmines in Networking.

I believe that new business builders deserve to know just how difficult prospects and team members can be so that they will be better prepared to cope with them. Many leaders disagree with me because they say they don't want new distributors to get discouraged by all the land mines in their paths. But the mines...

The Business of Heart-Based Living

Howard Martin, HeartMath LLC

In the last few years, more people than ever-from different backgrounds and walks of life-are talking about the heart. More company mission statements make a point to mention the importance of the heart in leadership and customer care. More speakers, articles and books, both spiritual and non-spiritual, are referring to the heart. Whether people mention speaking from the heart, listening to the heart, connecting with the heart, or following the heart...

Candlelight for the Soul

Dr. Fran DeLaCruz

Several winters ago, I received a humbling lesson about dedication from my business team. It happened at a point when there seemed to be nothing happening in our business-no matter how many people we spoke with, none of them joined. No matter how many people we showed our products, none of them became customers. This went on for nearly a month until the collective mind of all the members of my team decided enough was enough.

We were going to have a recruiting event to end all events. We were going to talk to so many people that everyone in our city (and possibly our state) knew that this event was going to happen. And then we would have people joining our business in droves, and hundreds of customers begging to buy our products. All we had to do was get a plan for the event (which we called The Big Event) and invite everyone we saw.

The plan was easy. We would put on a high tech multi-media event using introductory music, followed by a breathtaking video, capped off by the world's most impressive Power Point presentation. We put together all the materials, bought extra power cords, and designed every last detail of the presentation...

Step into the Web

Paul Gillin

For small business owners, the benefits of blogs, podcasts, online video and social networks are so compelling-at such low costs-that you owe it to yourself to look at the opportunities.

You don't have to be a technology geek or a professional writer to take advantage of these new tools. You do need to be passionate and informed about a topic and have the time and commitment to write frequently about it. For most small businesses, that means an hour or two a week. Here are some quick steps to get started.

Find out what others are already saying about your area of expertise. Sites like Technorati and Google Blog Search will get you started listening in on the conversation. Set up some Google Alerts about topics that interest you and start getting regular updates on what others are saying. While you're at it, set up an alert on your own name to see when others mention you.

Being "In the Zone"

Dr. Bill Toth

"Are you "Gellin?" asks the Dr Scholl's ad. The viewers are treated to images of actors smiling, dancing and "feeling crazy good." It's a feeling being portrayed and athletes call it "being in the zone." Are you? More importantly is your group? Or do you have a herd of cats in your business?

Remember the summer of the 1969 Mets? They were "gellin"! That was their summer; they owned it and everyone in the USA could feel it! Then there were the Boston Celtics in the 70's - they owned basketball and everyone in the USA knew it. Then the US Olympic Hockey team in the 80's, the Dallas Cowboys dynasty in the 90's, and the Chicago Bull's in the 90's. Great teams that still today give us much to strive for.

Movies like Miracle, Remember the Titans, We are Marshall, and Facing the Giants give a taste of what it means to be a winning team. They all contain scenes of the moment when the team "gells", when they become a TEAM and when they absolutely know that it's their time to win.
