FRIDAY, 11:16 A.M.
Imagine one day your boss says to you, “Bad news, we’re going to have to lay you off. The economy is down, business is bad.” You now feel really down.
Then the boss adds, “But you know what, if you were to work just one extra hour every day, from 5 to 6 o’clock, Monday through Friday, for no extra pay, we’ll let you keep your job.”
What would you do? Most people say, “For sure, I’ll work the hour overtime just to keep my job.”
Then the boss says, “I know it’s still kind of bad news, but there is also some good news: for that one hour of overtime at no extra pay, at the end of three years we’ll let you retire—at full pay.”
Now all of a sudden, you’re thinking, “Wow, what an opportunity! Three years from now, I can retire!”
So what would happen?
You’re working overtime and about a year down the road, one of your friends says, “Why don’t you quit doing that? C’mon, you’ve been working an hour overtime every day and you’re not getting paid for it!”
You say to your friend, “No way! I only have two years to go and then I’ll be able to retire.”
Eighteen months into your three-year plan, your spouse says, “Instead of working that hour overtime, why don’t you spend some more time with your family?”
You say, “No, no. Just another year and a half and I can retire at full pay.”
And you would faithfully continue, Monday through Friday, working an hour overtime at no extra pay so you could retire—and you’d be excited about the opportunity!
This is exactly the opportunity we have in network marketing. We tell people, “Spend at least one hour a day, Monday through Friday, building your business, and all you have to do is talk to some people. Don’t worry about what to say or how good you are, because with practice, you will get better. The longer you do this, the more you’ll learn and grow.”
Perhaps the first month you think, “Man, I really don’t know what to say.” The second month you realize, “At least I know how to point people to more information.” The third month you go, “I think this is kind of neat.”
And the fourth month you keep getting better and better.
Just invest an hour a day. At the end of three years, you might be pleasantly surprised and say, “I bet I can replace my full-time income.”
Wouldn’t you want to take advantage of this kind of opportunity? I bet everybody reading this story probably would—at least in their minds. But maybe not in actuality. Why? Because they’re thinking, “What if it doesn’t work? I don’t know anybody who has retired in three years. Everybody I know had to wait until 65 to retire.”
Naturally, most of us are going to have some doubts and will need to build up our belief. To help you with this, here is what our business offers: just to encourage you along the way, it lets you earn while you learn. Every so often you’ll get a check in the mail from your network marketing company, just to keep your spirits up during your three-year plan.
Once you start receiving those monthly or weekly checks, you’re going to say to yourself, “You know what? This business works! I’ve got these checks to prove it.”
This is the beauty of network marketing.
