My key to creating financial peace is to know that ultimately everything is going to be all right. For years, I struggled with not knowing how I was going to pay my bills from one month to the next. And, by the grace of God, I always had the money I needed to take care of my financial needs.
However, it was not always peaceful. I’d have meltdowns and breakdowns and days of crying because of the fear that I wouldn’t be “okay.” But I always was. Today, even though there’s a rampant amount of fear in our world about financial crises, the economy and what might happen, I have never felt such peace around finances.
One of the most important things to keep in mind is the old saying, “What you think about, you bring about.” This is more important now than ever before. The media is bombarding us every moment with fear-based stories of doom and gloom and that’s becoming the collective consciousness of our world.
But you don’t have to buy into that. Honestly, take a look at your life right now. In just a few seconds, you could identify many gifts you have to be grateful for, including the fact that you will have food on your plate tonight and a place to rest your head at the end of the day.
Yes, it may be true that, like most people, you have less money now than you did a year ago, but that doesn’t mean you have to have less peace of mind. You can make a conscious choice right now to trust that ultimately everything is going to be all right. Ask yourself: “Am I at risk of losing my life?” The answer is probably no. “Am I at risk of living on the streets?” The answer is probably no. “Am I at risk of having nothing to eat today?” Again, the answer is probably no.
On the other hand, have you ever been in a financial bind before? Most likely you have. And you survived it. You moved through it and probably learned a lot about yourself during those times.
Financial peace doesn’t come from anything outside yourself. As we’ve seen happen, you could have all the money in the world and have it be gone tomorrow. Financial peace doesn’t reside in the money, it resides within you and your trust in knowing that everything will be okay, and that you will become stronger internally as you claim peace now, even if it’s amidst chaos and fear. So will you choose financial peace today?
