During my twenty-five years as a consultant for a direct selling company, I frequently encountered negative reactions from people who were ignorant about our profession. If you’ve been in the business for any length of time, you may have had people say to you (or given a look that said), “Can’t you get a real job?” I used to reply, “Well, does it count if I have real money to spend?”

Today, times have changed. It used to be that you could go to work and count on retiring from that same job thirty years later. You could rest assured that if you put in the time, your retirement benefits and pension would afford you to continue the same lifestyle. Those days are gone.

Today’s economic climate is leading more and more people to recognize the benefits of having a home business, and of creating financial and time freedom by joining a profession that has survived recession after recession.
