By now you probably know that the Law of Attraction is the great secret to life. But simply knowing this secret is not enough. You must be able to apply it in your own life.

What is the law of attraction? Simply put, it means “like attracts like.” What this universal law tells us about our own lives is that the thoughts we think, feelings we feel, words we say and actions we take all consist of energy that attracts more of its own kind. That is, negative energies attract negative energies, and positive energies attract positive energies.

Practically speaking, if we want to have more happiness, joy, peace, wealth, love and so forth, we simply need to think positive thoughts and feel positive feelings and we’ll attract more of these into our lives—right?

If Only It Were That Easy…

Have you ever tried to feel a positive feeling when everything seems to be going wrong? Have you ever tried to think positive thoughts when your self-talk was downright scary? For most of us, positive thinking is not as easy as it seems it should be.

We all know that simply continuing to express our negative thoughts and feelings does not produce the results we want. So we try and go in the opposite direction and engage in positive thinking techniques, such as affirmations and visualization.

Unfortunately, most of us, when trying to think positively, simply suppress the negative feelings we’re having instead. We end up trying to put a happy face on the outside—while we are crying or screaming on the inside.

When we suppress thoughts and feelings, pushing them out of the way or back down into our subconscious, they simply stay in the background and fester, thereby sabotaging our attempts to feel the way we would like to feel and to create what we choose. This makes our minds and bodies even more uncomfortable and overburdened.

The Role of Your Subconscious

If we have over 50,000 thoughts a day, that’s a lot of thoughts to try to control and make positive. We are creating the sum total of our thinking and feeling about any particular topic at all times, but 95 percent of our actions are motivated by thoughts and feelings that are outside our conscious awareness.

Our subconscious is a little like a computer. Every negative emotion or feeling from the past that we carry in our subconscious is like a program operating in the background. When we have too many programs open at the same time, they can conflict with each other and compete for memory and processor access, which makes the computer work slower and slower—and eventually causes it to crash. These unresolved issues from the past rob us of our energy, clarity, joy and ability to attract what we want in our lives.

Simply adding more positive programs to the mix only takes up more memory and energy, further slowing down our natural internal guidance systems. When we suppress our thoughts and feelings—or simply add a little positive gloss—the job seems impossible. This is where most of us simply throw up our hands and say, “It doesn’t work for me!”

Producing Results with the Law of Attraction

There is another alternative to expressing and suppressing your thoughts and emotions, and that is releasing those negative thoughts and emotions as they arise in our conscious awareness.

Letting go is the secret behind The Secret.

Releasing your thoughts and feelings actually dissolves the negative emotional charge and allows you to reconnect with the natural feelings of joy, peace, happiness, abundance and love that are your true nature. You can learn to let go of anything negative and uncover the positive being you are at your core. This will quickly and dramatically shift your sum total thinking and feeling about your goals and dreams and allow you to put the law of attraction into full effect in your life.

Learning to let go is the key to unlocking your unlimited potential to have, be or do whatever you want in life. The following is a simple exercise taken from The Sedona Method, a simple, powerful and easy-to-learn technique that teaches you to move beyond positive thinking and release any and all negative emotions. Here is how it works:

Allow yourself to think of a goal, dream, affirmation or visualization you have been working to achieve.

Give yourself a moment to welcome the feeling of already having achieved this goal, as best you can.

Now dig a little deeper and ask yourself:

“What, if anything, inside of me is resisting this goal or holding it away?”

Then welcome the first thought or feeling that comes to mind, along with the sensations, pictures and sounds that arise with this thought or feeling.

Now ask yourself:

“Could I let this feeling go?”

“Am I willing to let it go?”

“When will I let it go?”

Keep repeating this process with your goal until you solidly feel you can achieve it or you’ve already achieved it.
