William Arthur Ward said it best: “Greatness is not found in possessions, power, position or prestige. It is discovered in goodness, humility, service and character.”

In our business we have the good fortune to witness greatness every day in the many people who are a force for good in the lives of those around them.

Greatness is found in the goodness of the sales representatives who overcome skepticism, cynicism and all the other obstacles life throws their way, and who passionately share our business opportunities and life-enhancing products with others. The business stretches the capabilities and will of all who participate. Greatness is found in those who face and overcome these challenges daily.

These same, humble great ones look beyond themselves and their circumstances and take seriously their responsibility to help their team members succeed. They delight in the success of those they recruit, train and motivate. At our company, we see so many of our sales leaders willingly sacrifice their time and means to help others, from spending countless hours training a new sales representative to driving miles out of their way to ensure that a customer has a needed product.

Greatness is also seen through service. As direct sellers, we are surrounded by some of the world’s most service-oriented people. While we could simply be satisfied by the high customer-service marks our sales representatives receive, the people of our profession have gone even further by actively supporting numerous charitable causes around the world. Last year, direct sellers in the United States alone contributed more than $100 million to humanitarian organizations around the world. At our company, we’re proud of an initiative we developed called Nourish the Children. Driven by our distributors, this initiative has already donated more than 57 million meals to starving children throughout the world.

Finally, we see greatness in the character of our sales leaders, who consistently represent our company and profession with integrity and honesty. Their high ethical standards guide them in accurately representing the benefits of our products and business opportunities. These great leaders also build their sales networks by attracting individuals with the same level of integrity, while avoiding those who are looking to make a quick buck. Additionally, their strong character ensures they always treat people with the respect and kindness they deserve.

I feel fortunate to be part of a profession and a company that fosters the elements of greatness: goodness, humility, service and character. It’s a privilege to see greatness in the lives of our sales force, as they offer people a better way of life through rewarding business opportunities and life-enhancing products, and by promoting an enriching and uplifting culture.
