My gut tells me that the way people live their lives and the way they want to work is about to change as Generation Y gets older. These are the people born about 1980-1994—and they are growing up fast!!

Generation Y

These young entrepreneurs are on the rise and the perfect place for them is network marketing. They want their own business with low startup costs and they are eager to hit the ground running. They use a ton of social media and they are masters at networking. They love technology and you need to be up to speed with how to market to them and follow-up with them.

There are 80 million of these ladies and gents … You need to be marketing to them!
Here are some ways how:

  • Get on social media—use Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to connect with people. Market yourself as an entrepreneur, not just a representative of a company with a certain rank.
  • Talk to them about your business and how it is flexible and has unlimited income potential.
  • Tell them about the low startup costs, built-in training, and the systems and tools that are already in place to help them succeed.
  • Tell them they can be creative in their own business. They can let their personality shine and make the business fit them.
  • Create fast milestones for them. Make them hungry for more and set the bar high. They love a good challenge and will see the benefits of the business faster.

I am a big believer in doing great follow-up and marketing to our customers (especially to Generation Y members) and potential customers and in doing that we need to follow the 75 percent versus 25 percent rule.

That means that 75 percent of the time, you need to make your communication all about them and not about you. When you send emails or make phone calls, make it about what is going on in their lives. Did they have a good vacation? How is the dog doing? How is the book club going? And so on.

You can have your tagline in your emails but you really need to stay away from selling your products and business all the time. It turns people off, (doesn't it turn you off when people do this)?

There are tons of ways to stay in touch, but make sure you are only sending out your sales and info about your business 25 percent of the time if you want people to keep looking forward to your messages.

In my upcoming webinar "Nine Ways to Boost Sales with Existing Customers," I am going to talk all about how to reach out to your existing customers to connect with them in a way that will make them want to join your team and stick around for the long haul. They will also be so taken by you with my techniques that the referrals will start flowing in.

Get yourself out there as a business owner and market yourself that way. You will start to attract people to your business and with them being so young, they will be around for 20, 30 and even 40 years so your efforts will pay off for years to come.

Have fun with it. This is an exciting time to be in network marketing!
