As we move through each week, there is one area where we are all the same: time. We all have the same amount of time every week. 10,080 minutes every week to be exact. What are you doing with your minutes?

Let's assume that you get 8 hours of sleep each night, and that you choose not to do any work on Sundays. Let's also assume that you spend 2 hours a day preparing and eating your food for the day. For those who are working a traditional job along side your networking business, you can also cut out another 2,700 minutes (8-hour work day, plus 1-hour commute, 5 days a week). That leaves you with 2,340 minutes each week.

So what is the best way to use your 2,340 minutes?

If you have a family, of course, you will be spending time with them, and perhaps children's activities. Then there are things that must be done every week as part of normal upkeep: personal hygiene, cleaning, laundry, dishes, food shopping... and the list goes on.

Because our worlds are so busy, it is essential to use the time that we are left with each week wisely. You want to get the biggest return on your investment of time that you can. There are two main ways to take control of your time:

  1. Reduce the amount of time spent on activities that do not align with your personal goals and mission in life.
  2. Focus on activities that give you the biggest impact for your time.

First, look at your schedule. Take a few minutes to write down everything you do in a typical week, both personally and in business: check email, call prospects, take children to park, host an opportunity meeting at your home, mow grass, take children to school, etc. It's important to think of as many things as you can.

Next, look at your list, and pick out the top three activities that give you the biggest impact for your time spent. Choose three activities that add to your bottom line on your business, plus three activities that align with your family mission. These are your priorities each week. Focus your work around the three business activities that you know bring you the best return on investment in business, and likewise, focus your personal life around the three activities that bring you the biggest return on investment personally.

Finally, take a look at your list again. What items on the list could be delegated? Eliminated all together? What are you doing just because you think you should, when in reality, it is not adding value to your life (personally or in business)? Perhaps you spend an hour chatting on social media, or watching your "favorite" TV program. Could that time be better spent working on the activities that have a bigger impact? What about things that need to be done, but could be delegated to someone else? Could you pay someone to mow your lawn, or clean your house, and then use that time to make prospecting calls, or do a business presentation instead? If your time will generate more money than what it would cost to pay someone to do tasks for you, then it is a good investment. For example, if you are paying someone $30 to mow your lawn, but use that hour to do a business presentation and welcome a new teammate that earns you $50, then it would be a good investment.

There is no magic formula for success. We all have the same amount of time given to us each day, and each week. It is what we choose to do with that time that makes all the difference. Some people choose to spend their time wisely, and some need to make better choices. It's up to you. What will you do with your 2,340 minutes this week?
